friday in san diego: torture and the best tacos.

san diego. friday.

let me show you my friday, the second day in san diego! it started with miro taking me out to lovely north park where we wanted to get breakfast.

san diego. friday.

at an italian place for an italian of course! caffe calabria.

san diego. friday. san diego. friday.

it was sweet. they had this huge coffee mill in the back, and we had coffee and croissant in a little booth.

san diego. friday.

after breakfast we hopped on a bus for more adventures.

san diego. friday.

and arrived here! in beautiful balboa park, which is huge.

san diego. friday. san diego. friday.

huge and beautiful. the weather was much better than the previous evening and the palm trees were swaying above us.

san diego. friday.

and in the pond, there were koi fish swimming! so mesmerizing.

san diego. friday.

right there stood this sweet boy and played the banjo. he was from california but lived in new orleans now. he was singing the most beautiful songs, in all their simplicity. we stood and listened for a long time.

san diego. friday.

we walked around the whole park for a long while. after taking a little walk through the botanical building, we moved ahead here, to the museum of man.

san diego. friday.

there, we saw this room filled with dates of inventions in history, monkey craniums, lemur paws and a huge exhibition on torture which was so so strong and horrifying. i learned so much, and i was in absolute shock over how many means of torture are still used around the world.

san diego. friday.

after catching our breath again after this draining exhibition, we went through downtown to little italy to get something to eat.

san diego. friday.

we ended up at davanti and the backlight was this beautiful.

san diego. friday.

we ordered in red wine, of course. miro is very into wine and taught me about grapes and soil and fertilizers. i’m like *blank* when it comes to this???

san diego. friday.

for lunch, i ordered cacio e pepe. it was sooo creamy and good. pasta, cheese and black pepper. three of the best things in life. oh, plus red wine and friends of course.

san diego. friday.

and then we had to walk it off! it drizzled a bit, but we conquered it and walked on. downtown was beautiful with all the lights, and the little trolley going through the city. i LOVE walking through new cities.

san diego. friday.

we ended up here, in the gaslamp quarter. this is where all the bars are, and where all the bros hang out (i think). we’re not bros, but we went for drinks and talks at a bar here anyways.

san diego. friday.

until it suddenly got late and we got a little hungry again and ended the night at city tacos where the tacos (smoked salmon and pescado for me) were just AMAZING. ghhh

mao
